# Connect Codex CLI to Void API

Configure Void API as a custom Responses API provider.

Examples use MODEL_ID as a placeholder, not an available model. Replace it with an ID from the current catalog. Choose a model that supports the endpoint and features used by this tool; vision and tool calling are not universal.

## API key

Store your key in an environment variable.

### Environment variables

```
export VOID_API_KEY='void_your_key'
```

## Configuration

Add the provider to ~/.codex/config.toml.

### ~/.codex/config.toml

```
model = "MODEL_ID"
model_provider = "void-api"
[model_providers.void-api]
name = "Void API"
base_url = "https://void-api.tech/v1"
env_key = "VOID_API_KEY"
wire_api = "responses"
```

## Run

Start Codex with an available model.

### shell

```
codex --model 'MODEL_ID'
```
